Studio Abend

Valentin Abend (he/him) is an architect, climate organiser and teacher.

He studied at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, worked for Herzog & de Meuron in Basel and SO – IL in New York, and is currently at Karamuk Kuo in Zurich. He is founder and director at Climate Words, Inc. and Paraply School, and taught Sustainable Systems at Parsons School of Design for six semesters.

ALDEA GUAYACÁN
2021 / Oaxaca, MX

An ecological community in Puerto Escondido

The site plan consists of a series of “aldeas” (Spanish for ‘hamlets’). The houses are placed among the native vegetation around shared gardens. Their footprints occupy areas of low vegetation density. The project is off the grid, generating its own solar power.
